Montauk Point, New York is a sleepy, scenic fishing hamlet situated on the eastern end of Long Island. We are located 120 miles east of New York City and 56 miles west of Martha. s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Since Long Island protrudes so far out into the Atlantic Ocean, we are the closest port to the canyons and Gulfstream in the entire Northeast. This make any offshore adventure for tuna, shark or marlin a relatively short trip. At the same time, all of Long Island Sound flows past Montauk with each ebb and flow of every tide. This provides for vast amounts of bait and nutrients to build up inshore which attracts and holds great schools of inshore gamefish such as trophy striped bass, slammer bluefish and doormat fluke.
What better way to spend your leisure time than going fishing? You and your friends and family can spend a relaxing day in the sun with the possibility of catching a really big one, a fish of a lifetime.
The Montauk Boatmen's and Captain's Association is the largest group of full time professional charter and party boat captains sailing out of the same port in the entire country.
While there are fish to catch year round the bulk of our season goes from April to December. During his period we fish for:

The waters of Montauk are quite productive, giving up more world record fish than any other port - truly the "SPORTFISHING CAPITAL OF THE WORLD".
Unlike most fishing areas, Montauk is surrounded by three distinct and totally different bodies of water. From the calm protected waters of Fort Pond Bay and Gardiner. s Bay through Block Island Sound to the Atlantic Ocean, many different species of fish can be found to suit any angler.
Montauk also provides some of the finest restaurants, resorts, motels and beaches in the world as well as an excellent golf course that is open to the public. Tennis courts are also available, as is horseback riding and hiking.
Remember, if you haven't fished Montauk - you've only been practicing.

Montauk Boatman's and Captain's Association Shark Tournament
2008 DATES - July 12 & 13
Each year the Montauk Boatman's and Captain's Association sponsors and manages a charity shark tournament which is open to the general public. All the surplus from the tournament, after prizes are accounted for goes back to the local community in the form of three to four college scholarships.
Prizes consist of cash and merchandise. In the year 2006 we gave out over $100,000 in cash and $5000 in donated prizes. In 2007, in addition to the cash prizes we will be awarding quality merchandise prizes such as a Lowrence X15 Combination chart/plotter/recorder. Sitex, Raytheon, Standard and Icom products will also be awarded. This tournament is based at the Star Island Yacht Club and held July 14 and159. A captains meeting will be held on Friday July 13 at 7:00 pm at Star Island. Scientists from the National Marine Fisheries Service will be present at the captains meeting to distribute shark tags and information. Also present will be representatives from various electronics manufacturers to demonstrate the latest in marine electronics.
The entry fee is $600 per boat for two days of fishing. A Calcutta will be available. Sign up will be at the July 12th captains meeting. All boats must be at least 23. in length and must abide by all tournament rules. Dockage, fuel, bait and tackle are available. Applications can be obtained at Star Island Yacht Club or by contacting Captain Stret Whitting at 631 668 4577 .
It should be pointed out that we do not encourage the killing of sharks. We promote tag and release, with a 175 pound minimum weight requirement at the weigh-in station.
